I thought I'd pass along a few of the websites that I've stumbled upon that tend to be informative, musically speaking, in a Ticket To Everywhere sty-lee.
I like this guy's simple, randomly updated website;
http://www.freeform.org/
Check out the Cosmic Groove/Kosmigroove Konnection within. I think I'd enjoy having a beer (or two) with this guy.
Here is some in depth writing on modern jazz;
http://www.pointofdeparture.org/
This s a blog written by the guys in The Bad Plus band;
http://thebadplus.typepad.com/dothemath/
They don't talk down to you. I sometimes find myself in over my head, but it's interesting non-the-less. There's lots of info in there if you rummage around.
This site puts up mp3s of out of print, rare jazz;
http://destination-out.com/
Again, lots of good information on modern jazz here if you dig.
All you prog-rock fans might like this site;

I played a couple solo piano pieces from Cecil Taylor. Cecil Taylor is 100 proof music/sound. Not for the faint of heart nor for casual backround listening. He's either a shaman or a charlatan - it all depends on your head space and timing. He uses the piano as a drum at times. I caught him in a trio setting, up in Hartford, about 20-ish years ago. He mixed in some "dance" and poetry with the music. But what really sticks in my mind was the ferocious intensity that the performance built to (that and the fellow who I watched skulk backstage and then meander on stage and hang out around the piano while Taylor was banging away - and wondering to himself, WTF. It took awhile before a roadie(?) corralled the guy, who looked to be pretty high, and escorted him off the stage. Ballsy but creepy.)
