| Condolences to Brother John |

Many of you may remember "Brother John" and his long running "Cool Runnings" reggae show heard on WCNI. Last week, John's eldest child, Blanton Smith (40), took his own life in New London. A horrible tragedy. I can't imagine the pain that John and his wife Pat are feeling.
The obit was in the 19 June Day newspaper. A blurb about his death had appeared the day before. I'm not sure if any of this is still accessible on line.
Donations in Blanton's memory can be made to SCADD (Southeastern Connecticut Council on Alcholism and Drug Dependence).

The Byles - Groton Memorial Home handled the burial arrangements. They may have a website wherein one can leave condolences to the family. Google it.
John had been a long time member of WCNI, still lives locally, and is still a financial supporter (Fin & Feather Pet Shop) of WCNI. He and Pat are wonderful people. Besides any individual cards or donations that folks may want to send to John or SCADD, I wonder if we could, as a station (and wider family of friends connected by the internet) collect money and make a donation to SCADD in WCNI's name? Or maybe (and much easier to do), post a card at the station for a week, that folks could sign, to be sent to John? I feel that some kind of recognition to John that WCNI (in some way) feels his pain would be a good thing to do.
I'd be willing to get this going. Any thoughts? |
