When it comes to the original live music scene in downtown New London, everyone's got an opinion. Some say we need a new club, like the El 'n' Gee or Station 58, with well-banked, savvy owners who know how to make a buck and stay afloat. Others say that the area's music itself is dead-a mere husk of what it was in the 1980s, when bands were good n' plenty. Does downtown need a sponsor? Does the music scene need real support from the city government, so that it can benefit like the Hygienic gallery has? How would you change New London's night life if you were playing SimCity? Voice your opinions from noon to 2 p.m., Thursday, when The Day hosts a live online discussion about the area's music scene. Join Day Arts Writer and music columnist Ben Johnson to talk about what the strengths and weaknesses of our area's original live music scene are. Log onto www.theday.com/eng/web/discussion/ and click on Homegrown Music. To start a thread, click on Submit Question. Questions can be submitted in advance of the live discussion. |
